2022 Summer Program

Youth Tryouts to Begin on Sunday, May 1 at Kiln Creek Park. High School Tryouts to Begin Sunday, May 8 at Norfolk Collegiate.

Home to ten of the last eighteen high school All-Americans in Hampton Roads, the Tidewater Patriots provide committed lacrosse players reasonably-priced, elite instruction from outstanding, veteran coaches. The mission is simple: help boys become the best that they can be by actually teaching them -- and the results are tangible: the Patriots are the most competitive and longest-running travel program in the area, with dozens of program graduates having gone on to successfully compete at the college level. Eighteen Patriots graduates are presently on NCAA Division I, II or III rosters.

The Patriots primary focus is on player development and the perfection of skills and lacrosse IQ. Patriots teams typically conduct 12 two-hour practices over the course of each season with all sessions being overseen by program director Chris Swanenburg. A former Division I head coach, Swanenburg brings 20 years of NCAA coaching and recruiting experience to the Patriots and has developed future All-Americans and professional players alike. Many of the best players in the region have come through the Patriots program and Coach Swanenburg's connections have opened doors at the college level for tens of players.

For the summer of 2022, the Patriots will field several youth and high school boys lacrosse teams. Team determinations will be made based off of interest at various age groups. The intention is to field two teams at the high school level along with youth squads at the 14U, 12U and 10U levels. All teams will play 10v10 lacrosse.

Individuals interested in joining the Patriots must complete a successful evaluation process, arranged in one of two ways:

  • Request an evaluation to be conducted at a team practice or game.
  • Attend a Patriots tryout practice in early May. Youth tryouts will be held Sunday, May 1 and Sunday, May 8. High School tryout dates will be held on Sunday, May 8 and Sunday, May 15.

An evaluation fee of $20 (which will be applied to Patriots team dues upon selection to a team) and an Application & Waiver Form must be submitted prior to being considered for the Patriots. All participants, including returnees, must be members of USA Lacrosse.

Regularly scheduled practices will begin with tryouts and run through the month of June. Practices will be held so as to not conflict with existing recreational, middle school and high school schedules. The Patriots' primary practice location will be Kiln Creek Park in York County. The Warhill Sports Complex in Williamsburg and Norfolk Collegiate in Norfolk will also serve as a practice locations.

The 10U Team will compete in the following tournament:

All other Patriot teams will participate in the following events:

The cost of participation, which includes all practice sessions and tournament entry fees, is as follows:

  • 10U Team: $300
  • 12U & 14U Teams: $550
  • HS Teams: $650

For further information, or should you have any questions regarding the evaluation process, teams or program, please contact Coach Swanenburg at (443) 690-7683 or at director@capitallacrosse.com.
