2022 Fall Program
Open Tryouts to Be Held on Sunday, September 4 at Kiln Creek Park and Sunday, November 11 at Norfolk Collegiate. Pre-Registration is Required.
The longest-running travel program in Hampton Roads, the Tidewater Patriots provide committed lacrosse players reasonably-priced, elite instruction from outstanding, veteran coaches. The mission is simple: help boys become the best that they can be by actually teaching them -- and the results are tangible: the Patriots are the most successful travel program in the area, with dozens of program graduates having gone on to successfully compete at the college level. Eighteen Patriots graduates competed at the NCAA Division I, II or III level during the spring of 2022.
The Patriots primary focus is on player development and the perfection of skills and lacrosse IQ. Patriots teams typically conduct 8-12 two-hour practices over the course of each season with all sessions being overseen by program director Chris Swanenburg. A former Division I head coach, Swanenburg brings 20 years of NCAA coaching and recruiting experience to the Patriots and has developed future All-Americans and professional players alike. Many of the best players in the region (and the majority of Tidewater All-Americans) have come through the Patriots program and Coach Swanenburg's connections have opened doors at the college level for tens of players.
For the fall of 2022, the Patriots will field two teams at the high school level along with 2027/28 and 2029/30 youth squads. All teams will play 10v10 lacrosse.
Individuals interested in joining the Patriots must be favorably evaluated at one of the program's first two practices -- Sunday, September 4 and Sunday, September 11. It is strongly encouraged to attend the September 4 practice as roster spaces are limited and will be filled on a rolling basis.
An evaluation fee of $20 (which will be applied to Patriots team dues upon selection to a team) and an Application & Waiver Form must be submitted prior to being considered for the Patriots. All participants, including returnees, must be members of USA Lacrosse.
Regularly scheduled practices will be held every Sunday during the months of September and October. The Patriots' primary practice locations will be Kiln Creek Park in York County, Norfolk Collegiate in Norfolk and the Warhill Sports Complex in Williamsburg.
As for tournaments, all Patriots teams will compete in the November 6 Colonial Challenge in Williamsburg. A second tournament (which may vary by team) will be selected once team rosters are finalized and the competitive level of each squad is assessed. This second event will likely be a two-day event the weekend of November 12-13.
The cost of participation, which includes all practice sessions and tournament entry fees, is as follows:
Newcomers to the program will also be required to purchase a customized three-piece Patriots uniform set at a nominal fee.
