2024 Summer Program

All Practices Now Conducted at Norfolk Collegiate. High School Tryouts Begin April 28. Pre-Registration Required.

The longest-running travel program in Hampton Roads, the Tidewater Patriots provide committed lacrosse players reasonably-priced, elite instruction from outstanding, veteran coaches. The mission is simple: help boys become the best that they can be by actually teaching them -- and the results are tangible: the Patriots are the most successful travel program in the area, with dozens of program graduates having gone on to successfully compete at the college level. Over twenty Patriots graduates are presently competing at the NCAA Division I, II and III or MCLA levels.

The Patriots primary focus is on player development and the perfection of skills and lacrosse IQ. Patriots teams typically conduct 8-12 two-hour practices over the course of each season with all sessions being overseen by program director Chris Swanenburg. A former Division I head coach, Swanenburg brings 20 years of NCAA coaching and recruiting experience to the Patriots and has developed future All-Americans and professional players alike. Many of the best players in the region (and the majority of Tidewater All-Americans) have come through the Patriots program and Coach Swanenburg's connections have opened doors at the college level for tens of players.

Three youth teams are planned for the summer of 2024 with tryouts for 2028, 2029 and 2030/31 teams to be held on March 24. Tryouts for two high school teams (Showcase & Tournament) will be held on April 28. Whereas the Showcase Team consists of the most experienced and talented players in the the region, the Tournament Team caters more toward promising younger high school players. Both teams attend recruiting events.

As necessary, additional youth team evaluations will be conducted on April 7 and additional high school evaluations will be held on May 5 .

Practices for all teams will begin with the first official tryout and be held every Sunday morning through the month of May (with the exception of Easter Sunday and Memorial Day Weekend). Once June begins, all teams will practice both Saturday and Sunday mornings.

The tournament schedule for the youth teams will be as follows:

The high school teams will participate in the following tournaments:

The cost of participation, which includes all practice sessions and tournament entry fees, is as follows:

  • 2028, 2029 & 2030/31 Teams: $595
  • HS Showcase & Tournament Teams: $695

Newcomers to the program will also be required to purchase an "at cost" fully-sublimated uniform set, consisting of a reversible, shorts and a shooter shirt.

Regardless of team, for insurance purposes, all boys interested in trying out for the Patriots must be members of USA Lacrosse. They must also submit both a registration form and a non-refundable tryout fee of $25 prior to being considered for the Patriots. Upon receipt of these items, a confirmation email with greater details will be sent.
