2019 Fall Program

Home to nine of the last eighteen high school All-Americans in Hampton Roads, the Tidewater Patriots provide committed lacrosse players elite instruction from outstanding, veteran coaches. The mission is simple: help boys become the best that they can be by actually teaching them -- and the results are tangible: the Patriots are the most competitive and longest-running travel program in the area and boast numerous graduates successfully competing at the college level.

Unlike most travel programs, the Patriots focus on player development and the perfection of skills and lacrosse IQ. Patriots teams typically conduct twelve two-hour practices over the course of each season with all sessions being overseen by program director Chris Swanenburg. A former Division I head coach, Swanenburg brings 20 years of NCAA coaching experience to the Patriots and has developed future All-Americans and professional players alike. Numerous boys who have come through the Patriots program have flourished at the high school and college levels.

For the fall of 2019, the Patriots will field at least two youth and two HS boys lacrosse teams. Team determinations will be made based off of interest at various age groups. Heading into the fall, the intention is to field at least 12U and 14U teams at the youth level and two recruiting teams at the high school level.

Open tryouts for all teams will be held on Sunday, August 18 and Sunday, August 25 at the TowneBank Athletic Park in Newport News. An evaluation fee of $30 (which covers both days and will be applied to Patriots program fees upon selection to a team) and an Application & Waiver Form must be submitted prior to being considered for the Patriots. All participants (including returnees) must also be members of US Lacrosse.

Practices for all teams will begin with tryouts and continue every weekend (mostly on Sunday afternoons with some Saturday evenings) until tournament play begins in November. All practices will be conducted on turf fields and will take place at the TowneBank Athletic Park in Newport News, the Warhill Sports Complex in Williamsburg and Norfolk Collegiate in Norfolk.

The 12U and 14U teams will compete in the following tournaments:

The Tournament HS team will compete in the following tournaments:

The Showcase HS team will compete in the following tournaments:

The cost of participation, which includes all practice sessions, tournament entry fees and a fully sublimated reversible jersey, shorts and shooter shirt, is as follows:

  • 12U Team: $475
  • 14U Team: $525
  • Tournament HS Team: $650
  • Showcase HS Team: $725
