2026 Early Season Advanced Training Program

Open to boys from all organizations, schools and travel programs. Get the rust off and prepare for the season ahead!

Commonwealth Lacrosse Director Chris Swanenburg will be overseeing advanced teaching sessions for boys in grades 4-12 interested in improving their skill sets and developing into elite players. Two distinct sessions are offered.

Session #1 is for boys of any position, of moderate to high lacrosse ability and entering grades 4-8. The primary focus of this program is to develop and perfect proper fundamentals and skills, while developing higher lacrosse IQs. Individual and position-specific instruction will occur along with small-sided drill work.

Session #2 is for boys specifically interested in perfecting their individual stick skills and shooting. It is only open to boys with advanced skills, three of more years of playing experience and who are entering grades 9-12. Instruction will be highly individualized with a focus on perfecting techniques and form. Enrollment will be strictly limited to only 20 boys.

All sessions will be held for five consecutive Sundays (January 25 and February 1, 8, 15 & 22) on artificial turf fields at Norfolk Collegiate in Norfolk. Session #1 will take place from 11:00-12:45. Session #2 will take place from 12:45-2:15.

Enrollment for both sessions is open to boys from all programs, schools and/or travel teams. Full equipment (including a mouth guard for Session #1) is required.

Both sessions will be led by Chris Swanenburg, a former All-Ivy goaltender and 1990 graduate of Yale University. Coach Swanenburg has over 35 years of coaching experience, with 20 of those served at the college level. In addition to being the all-time winningest coach at Division I Radford University, Swanenburg started the program at Christopher Newport University in 2005. He has been a fixture in the Hampton Roads lacrosse community since, and has spent the last 15 years helping develop some of the area's most accomplished athletes. Dozens of his players have earned All-American distinction and have gone on to successfully compete at the NCAA Division I, II and III or MCLA levels.

The costs for the programs are as follows: Session #1 - $150, Session #2 - $200. Enrollment is limited and sessions have sold out in years past.

Registration is being conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. Boys interested in participating must be members of USA Lacrosse and submit an online registration form. Upon receipt of both the form and payment, a confirmation email with greater details will be sent.

For more information, or should you have any questions, please contact Chris Swanenburg at (443) 690-7683 or at director@capitallacrosse.com.
